New Hatchlings

Our neighbor, Hope, came by to show us her new chicks and ducklings. Just before Easter the local feed stores sell baby chicks, ducks and bunnies. The chicks are picture perfect yellow. I found out later that chicken breeding companies inject dye into the egg one week before it hatches, causing the feathers to grow in this bright hue. Eventually the dye wears off and they grow normal colored feathers. I think it's probably not the most healthy practice, but apparently they are in demand because by the time we went to the store to see the baby animals, they were completely sold out. We'll hold out for the natural ones. The kids had the best time playing with them. One of the ducklings we happy as could be in Chase's shirt pocket.
